What's Next for Marketo Engage: The 2026 Agentic Roadmap

Callable Agents, Build with AI, MCP, and CRM Sync v2 — a plain-English map of Adobe's Marketo Engage roadmap for 2026 and what marketing ops teams should get ready for.

Adobe's message at Summit 2026 was blunt: Marketo Engage is being rebuilt as an agent-ready marketing operations environment. Not 'add some AI to campaigns' — a structural shift toward AI agents that read, build, and maintain marketing programs alongside humans. Here is a practical map of what that means, based on Adobe Summit 2026 sessions and the 2026 release notes.

The four pillars

1. Agentic User Experience

The new 'Build with AI' interface — currently in Public Beta — introduces a conversational layer over Marketo. Marketers can browse programs, ask questions about assets, and issue commands in natural language. It sits alongside the classic UI, and admins choose who sees it. AI features must be explicitly enabled via your Adobe Solutions Account Manager.

2. Agent Skills — inside Marketo

Discrete AI-powered agents that operate inside Marketo. Some are Public Beta, some are Private Beta as of mid-2026:

  • Program & Asset Validation (Public Beta) — checks against best practices, naming conventions, token config.
  • Lead List Import, Cleanse, Normalize (Public Beta) — auto-flag duplicates, standardize values across thousands of records.
  • Program Planning (Private Beta) — natural-language program planning.
  • Program & Campaign Creation (Private Beta) — auto-create programs with filters, triggers, flow steps.
  • Lead Investigation (Private Beta) — deep single-lead analysis in natural language.

3. Callable Agents inside Smart Campaigns

The biggest structural change. Callable Agents can be triggered from a Smart Campaign flow step — meaning an agent action becomes part of your standard automation logic, not a side workflow. Typical use cases include data field normalization on inbound leads, bot detection, and enrichment before routing. Callable Agents are Private Beta and are expected to reshape how MOPs teams think about flow-step design.

4. Marketo MCP Server — outside Marketo

Where Agent Skills are Adobe-built and live inside Marketo, MCP is the outside-in equivalent. Any MCP-compatible AI (Claude, Copilot, Cursor, Gemini) can connect to Marketo securely through the MCP Server and reason across your instance. Rate limits are separate from REST API limits. We covered this in more depth in a separate article.

Personalization and email

  • Email Designer Brand Management — Public Beta. Adaptive brand controls at design time.
  • Email Designer Brand Quality Checker — Public Beta. Auto-check brand compliance before send.
  • Picklist Management — Generally Available.
  • Enhanced Duplicates Filter — Private Beta.

Pipeline and CRM

  • CRM Sync v2 — ongoing rollout. Better visibility, diagnostics, troubleshooting for Marketo↔Salesforce and Marketo↔Dynamics.
  • CRM Sync Observability — additional attributes rolling into dashboards.
  • Sales Qualifier and Brand Concierge — included in Prime/Ultimate packages for advanced AI personalization.
  • Dynamic Chat — transcript download and visitor wait-time limits.

What this means for MOPs teams over the next 12 months

There is a straightforward playbook that comes out of the 2026 roadmap. It is not glamorous, but it is what earns the leverage.

  • Clean up the instance. Agents amplify governance, good or bad. Naming conventions, template hygiene, and channel/status alignment become force multipliers.
  • Retire deprecated APIs. The July 31, 2026 REST + SOAP deprecations are not optional.
  • Pilot one Agent Skill and one Callable Agent inside a low-stakes program. Learn where oversight is still required.
  • Plan Email Designer migration if you have not started. Brand Themes and Fragments are prerequisites for meaningful brand agent work.
  • Enable AI with your Adobe SAM. Nothing turns on by default.
“AI agents do not replace marketing ops teams. They replace the tickets marketing ops teams should never have been doing in the first place.”

How we're thinking about it at Xadentra

We do not treat any of these features as reasons to change the fundamentals of how a good Marketo instance runs. Lifecycle, routing, sync hygiene, and campaign QA still decide whether your pipeline reports mean anything. What the 2026 roadmap changes is the ceiling — a well-governed instance in 2027 will be able to move an order of magnitude faster than a well-governed instance in 2024. Getting the fundamentals right this year is the price of admission.
